True first state of the first edition with issue points: “Father Giles” misprint on Bibliography page & broken type on page 229. Map remains attached to read endpaper and is in great shape. The indispensable companion to the Lord of the Rings fantasy saga. Jacket is protected in archival sleeve but with some tanning and moderate shelf wear around the edges including chipping and small tears/creases. Boards are a bit faded but remain straight and clean on the whole. Corners and wholesale spine ends slightly bumped. Foxing to page edges and tanning pages that otherwise remain unmarked.
